Here we go! This is the first of the five illustrations for the contest held by the famous Bologna Children's book fair. That's a pretty competitive contest, illustrators from all around the world aim to get a place in the fair and this year I decided to have a try too...though i know i have very few possibilities to win! U_U Especially after having seen the prints of my illustration...U_U Bloody print shop, my printer is better than your screwed up plotters! >_< i wish we could hand in an electronic copy for the illustrations colored digitally. :(
Anyway, here it is the first illustration, hope that you like it at least! It's from Pinocchio by Collodi, precisely it illustrates chapter twelve, whose content caption is quoted and translated above. :) It's basically the scene when Pinocchio, after saving from the fire Arlecchino (who is jumping up and down) is given five gold coins by Mangiafuoco, who is completely moved by the bravery of the little puppet. By the way, in the book, Mangiafuoco's beard is described like a bunch of black snakes hanging from his face. So i decided to represent it really like a bunch of knotted snakes! :D
I shall post the four illustrations left soon. :)
